Ingredients
- 1 1/2 Tablespoons granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1/3 cup warm water
- 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
- 3 1/2 cups all purpose flour
- 1/2 cup additional water
Directions
- Combine sugar, yeast, and 1/3 cup of warm water. Let stand for 5 minutes to activate the yeast.
- Add 1 1/2 teaspoons of salt and gently stir it in.
- Add 3 1/2 cups of flour. Mix until dough forms.
- Kneed for about 10 minutes, then let dough rest for either 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough and let it rest for 10 more minutes.
- Shape bagels by rolling dough into 8 balls, then poke a hole through the middle and place on a sheet tray.
- Let bagels rest for another 10 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 425°F
- Bring a pot of water to a boil and cook the bagels 1-2 minutes per side. (The longer cooked, the chewier the bagel.)
- Bake for 20 minutes, or until they are a golden brown. Let cool and enjoy!
